Phansidewa, 15th September: In a foiled attempt at animal trafficking, the officers from the Bidhannagar Investigation Center intercepted a container truck in Phansidewa’s Bidhan Nagar area and recovered 31 buffaloes. The container driver, identified as Samaul Haque, has been arrested.
As per details received, the container was stopped during a routine checking on the Murali Ganj National Highway in Bidhan Nagar. Upon inspection, the police discovered the buffaloes being trafficked. Upon further investigation it was revealed that the driver did not possess any valid documentation pertaining to the cattle.
According to police sources, the buffaloes had been brought from Panjipara in Uttar Dinajpur and were intended to be trafficked across Assam into Bangladesh. The driver was presented in the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday. The Bidhannagar Investigation Center is now investigating further to identify any additional individuals involved in the trafficking network.
