Siliguri, 06th March: Holi celebrations in Siliguri concluded peacefully this year, with only a few minor incidents reported across the city. However, police arrested around 190 people over two days for allegedly attempting to disturb the peaceful atmosphere, while 44 individuals were booked for drink-and-drive.
The administration had made elaborate security arrangements in advance for the festival. The traffic wing of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police also remained fully alert during the celebrations.
During the two days of Holi on 03rd March and 04th March, the traffic department carried out a special drive against drink-and-drive and issued challans to 44 people for driving under the influence of alcohol.
To further strengthen security arrangements, Siliguri Police Commissioner C. Sudhakar, DCP Rakesh Singh, DCP Traffic Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed and other senior officers were seen monitoring sensitive areas, including Venus More and other key locations in the city.
Commissioner C. Sudhakar also inspected various parts of the city along with his officers to review the security situation during the festival.
Meanwhile, residents celebrated Holi with enthusiasm and joy across Siliguri. Markets witnessed brisk sales of colourful gulal, while sweet shops saw heavy crowds.
Officials said that with cooperation between the administration and the public, Siliguri once again set an example of communal harmony and peaceful celebration during the festival. DCP Rakesh Singh confirmed that the festival concluded peacefully, though action was taken against those who attempted to disturb the atmosphere.
