Siliguri, 12th October: 13-year-old Sanjit Barman, a resident of Jaldumur Sahupara under Binnaguri Gram Panchayat adjacent to Siliguri, possesses the talent of artistry from a very young age. With intentions to pursue a career in idol-making, young Sanjeet showcases his talent by molding clay into the illustrative idol of the goddess Durga.
According to reports, Sanjit Barman is a seventh-grade student from Netaji Boys High School in Siliguri. It is to be mentioned that Sanjit began idol-making at the age of five. As a child, he would gather clay from the banks of ponds and make various idols of Hindu deities. His family members were astonished to find out the boy’s talent as no one in his family was associated with pottery or clay work. In addition, Sanjit did not learn the art of idol-making and would sculpt based on pure talent. Later, he began working on bigger sculptures with the aid of videos and pictures on the internet.
In the meantime, Durga Puja was never practiced at his home. However, in an effort to encourage the youngster with his enthusiasm for idol-making, the festival has been held at his house with his handcrafted idols for the past three years. With only a few days ahead of pujas, Sanjit is working hard on creating decorative idols for the festival besides his schooling.
