Youths allegedly attack shop in Siliguri over ‘Alu Biryani’ dispute

Siliguri, 15th October: In an unusual incident, a disagreement over ‘Alu Biryani’ led to a commotion and an alleged attack on a shop near NTS More in Siliguri on Monday night. The entire incident was captured on CCTV.


According to reports, a group of youths, including one identified as Gopal Roy, visited the biryani shop late on Monday. The trouble began when they requested ‘Alu Biryani’ (potato biryani) from the shopkeeper, who informed them that the shop did not serve that item. The youths allegedly began verbally abusing the staff.

To diffuse the situation, the shop owner intervened and agreed to provide them potato biryani. However, tensions rose again when the price was set at 80 rupees, which sparked another argument. The youths are accused of assaulting the shop workers following the dispute.


On Tuesday, the shop owner lodged a formal complaint against the youths at Siliguri police station. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.
