Youth takes own life after missing lottery jackpot by one number in Siliguri

Siliguri, 18th December: A 27-year-old man in Siliguri tragically died by suicide after reportedly missing the first prize in a lottery by a single number. The incident has led to shock and commotion in Ward No. 36 of the city.


The deceased, Rajat Poddar, a resident of Shanti Nagar in Ward No. 36, was found hanging in his home on Wednesday morning. The police from the Ashigar Outpost were immediately notified and recovered the body, which has been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

According to family members, Rajat had been addicted to purchasing lottery tickets. His brother stated that Rajat had purchased a lottery ticket the previous day and became deeply upset after realizing he had missed the top prize by just one number. This disappointment may have driven him to take his own life.


The police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
