Siliguri, 24th January: A youth attempting to sell stolen camera lenses in Siliguri was caught by a shopkeeper and handed over to the police. The accused, identified as Papai Choudhary, is a resident of Cooch Behar.
According to reports, a photographer’s camera lenses were stolen in Cooch Behar a few days ago. On Friday, Papai Choudhary visited a camera shop in Siliguri’s Bidhan Market to sell two camera lenses. The shopkeeper became suspicious upon seeing the lenses and questioned the youth. His doubts grew after hearing the accused’s responses. The shopkeeper then contacted his friends to gather information about the stolen lenses. He confirmed that the lenses matched those reported stolen in Cooch Behar.
Using his presence of mind, the shopkeeper engaged the youth in conversation while informing the police. Officers from Panitanki Outpost soon arrived, recovered the two stolen lenses, and took Papai Choudhary into custody.
Upon hearing the news, the photographer whose lenses were stolen also arrived in Siliguri. According to police sources, a total of four camera lenses were stolen, of which two have now been recovered. Efforts are underway to locate the remaining lenses, and an investigation is ongoing.
