Siliguri, 06th October: In a recent incident in the Tumbajote area of Matigara, a youth became a victim of robbery while offering a ride to an unknown individual on a scooter. The investigation led to the arrest of accused, identified as Ranodeep Das and MD Aftab.
On the evening of October 1, the victim was traveling towards Jhankar More for work when he was approached by a stranger who claimed that his mother was ill and requested a ride. The victim agreed to take him to the specified location. However, near the Tumbajote tea garden, the hitchhiker threatened the driver and forced him into a nearby jungle, where an accomplice was waiting.
The two thieves stole the victim’s mobile phone and transferred ₹35,000 online from his account. Following the incident, the victim filed a formal complaint at the Matigara police station on October 2.
Based on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and apprehended two suspects near the Panchnai Bridge on October 5. After their interrogation, the suspects confessed to the robbery. On Sunday, the duo was presented in court in Siliguri, and the police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
