Siliguri, 5th April: Police have arrested the main accused in connection with the death of a youth who was injured in a clash during Ram Navami procession in Siliguri.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Suraj Sahni, was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during the incident in the Tikiapara area of Ward No. 28. He succumbed to his injuries after undergoing treatment for nearly eight days.
Tension gripped the area following news of his death. On Saturday, after the post-mortem, family members along with local residents staged a protest by placing the body on the road and blocking traffic, demanding immediate arrest of those responsible.
A heavy police presence was deployed to control the situation, which was brought under control after officials assured prompt action.
Continuing the investigation, police arrested the accused, identified as Rajesh Sahni, from his sister’s residence in Birpara, Alipurduar, on Sunday morning. He was later produced before the court. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
