Fulbari, 10th September: A tragic incident unfolded in Fulbari where a young man drowned in the Teesta Canal. The incident occurred on Saturday night in the Canal Basti area on Teesta Canal Road under Fulbari-II Gram Panchayat. The drowned youth has been identified as Mrigank Chowdhury (23), a resident of Ward No. 30 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
As per reports, Mrigank, accompanied by his friend, visited the area on Saturday when he accidentally fell into the canal and got swept away by the strong flow of the water current. Subsequently, the locals responded after hearing his friend’s cries but were unable to rescue him. On Sunday morning, the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police and the Disaster Management team arrived at the scene and initiated a rescue operation.
