Naxalbari, 16th March: Police arrested a youth with over 1 kg of brown sugar during an operation at Rathkhola More in Naxalbari near the Indo-Nepal border.
According to sources, the accused had arrived in Naxalbari by train from Malda. Police grew suspicious after noticing him loitering near Rathkhola More and conducted a search. During the search, officers recovered 11 plastic containers from a bag in his possession. On opening the containers, 11 packets of brown sugar weighing around 1 kg 118 grams were recovered.
The accused was immediately arrested by Naxalbari Police. He has been identified as Abul Kashim (27), a resident of Baishnab Nagar in Malda district.
Police sources said the accused had allegedly brought the drugs from Malda with the intention of handing them over to someone else. He was produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. Naxalbari Police have started an investigation into the entire incident.
