Siliguri, 18th March: Ahead of the upcoming elections, a youth was arrested with a firearm by plainclothes police from Siliguri Police Station.
The accused has been identified as Rocky Roy (31), a resident of Burdwan district.
According to sources, the youth was found moving suspiciously near the Surya Sen Park area in Siliguri. Acting on a tip-off, police reached the spot, detained him and conducted a search. During the search, one firearm and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
He was subsequently arrested by the police. Authorities are investigating the source of the firearm.
The incident has created a sense of concern in the area ahead of the elections, and security measures have been further intensified, sources said.
