Siliguri, 03rd April: Plainclothes officers of Matigara Police Station arrested a youth with a firearm in Siliguri amid the election atmosphere. The accused has been identified as Bhavesh Roy (22), a resident of Matigara.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted him while he was moving along a road. A firearm along with live ammunition was recovered during the search, following which he was taken into custody.
Police sources stated that the accused was engaged in suspicious activities and was detained before he could carry out any potential criminal act. A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri court, and police have sought remand to investigate the source of the firearm. Further probe is underway to determine possible links to any criminal conspiracy or illegal arms network.
