Siliguri, 17th February: Ahead of the assembly elections, police in Siliguri arrested a youth carrying a firearm during a late-night check near Circuit House More. The operation was conducted by a plainclothes team from Pradhan Nagar Police Station.
Reports stated that the youth was traveling in a three-wheeler auto when the police found his behavior suspicious. A search revealed a firearm and a live ammunition strapped to his waist. The arrested individual has been identified as MD Firoz, also known as Raj, a resident of the Kalimpong area.
Preliminary interrogation indicated that he was allegedly planning to deliver the firearm to someone in the Siliguri Junction area while disguised as a passenger.
Police have registered a case against him under the Arms Act and presented him before the Siliguri court. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the firearm and determine the intended recipient.
