Siliguri, 20th March: Police from Pradhan Nagar police station arrested a youth from the Darjeeling More area of Siliguri with a firearm and ammunition. The arrested person has been identified as Gopal Karmakar (24), a resident of Pati Colony in Siliguri.
According to information, police received a tip-off that a youth was coming from the Salbari area carrying arms and heading towards Siliguri Junction, allegedly with the intention of delivering the weapon. Acting on the input, the anti-crime wing of Pradhan Nagar police station set up a blockade at the Darjeeling More area.
The suspect was apprehended and, upon search, a firearm along with ammunition was recovered from his possession. He was subsequently taken into custody. Police have initiated an investigation into the entire matter.
