Siliguri, 10th December: Security forces apprehended a youth with a country-made firearm in Phansidewa, ahead of a planned exchange of weapons. The arrest took place during a special naka search in the Ambari Hat area of Phansidewa under Siliguri Subdivision.
Reportedly, personnel of the 41st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) caught the youth carrying a country made pistol along with ammunition. Sources said the arrested individual, identified as Rajabul Mohammad from Ramganj in Islampur, had brought the firearm and ammunition from Uttar Dinajpur and was planning to exchange it.
The SSB handed over the arrested youth to Phansidewa police. He was produced in the court on Wednesday. Rajabul Mohammad is a known offender with a criminal record.
