Siliguri, 07th January: A team of undercover SOG and Matigara police, in a joint operation, foiled drug smuggling plan. 19-year-old Ajay Sharma, a resident of Dalkhola, was nabbed from a roadside dhaba in Matigara on Thursday night under the suspicion of smuggling drugs. Upon searching, cops recovered huge quantity of brown sugar inside Ajay’s bag.
According to police sources, SOG had received a tip-off regarding the potential smuggling of drug in a roadside restaurant under Matigara police station jurisdiction. Acting promptly, the cops of SOG and Matigara police station conducted a joint operation in several dhabas. Ajay was nabbed during the operation and a total of 382 grams of brown sugar was recovered from his bag. The market value of the said consignment has been estimated at Rs 20 lakh.
Matigara police station registered a case against the accused under NDPS Act and produced him in Siliguri court today. The police are probing the entire matter.
