Naxalbari, 12th August: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Naxalbari Police, in collaboration with the Darjeeling Police’s Special Operation Group (SOG), arrested a youth and seized a substantial quantity of brown sugar valued in lakhs. The accused, identified as 21-year-old Utpal Barman, hails from Raghu Jote in Naxalbari.
The arrest followed a tip-off that led the police and SOG team to set up a watch near a canal in Raghu Jote. Their vigilance paid off when they noticed a young man entering the village on a bicycle, carrying what appeared to be illegal substances. Upon search, authorities discovered 206 grams of brown sugar in his possession.
The suspect was promptly taken into custody and presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. The Naxalbari police have launched an investigation into the incident to uncover further details and possible connections.
