Phansidewa, 22nd March: In yet another significant breakthrough, the cops of Ghoshpukur Outpost of Phansidewa apprehended a young man with brown sugar worth 50 lakh rupees. The arrested accused has been identified as Rahman Sheikh (18), a resident of Malda.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off, the cops of Ghoshpukur Outpost launched an operation in Ghoshpukur area of Phansidewa block on Friday and halted the young man based on suspicion. Upon initiating a search, 500 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the youth’s bag which prompted his arrest.
According to Ghoshpukur Outpost police sources, the estimated market value of the recovered brown sugar is around 50 lakh rupees. The intoxicating substances were allegedly being transported from Malda to Siliguri intended for smuggling. On Saturday, the accused will be produce before Siliguri Sub-divisional Court.
