Youth arrested with 504 grams of brown sugar during delivery attempt in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 10th January: Police on a foggy night foiled a drug trafficking attempt in Naxalbari by arresting a youth who had arrived to deliver narcotics. A total of 504 grams of brown sugar was recovered from his possession.


The arrested accused has been identified as Ramzan Ali alias Abbas. Police sources said he is a notorious and active drug trafficker from Malda district. The accused was allegedly planning to deliver the contraband in Naxalbari after bringing it from a village located near the Bangladesh border in Malda.

According to police, the accused was roaming suspiciously near the old petrol pump area adjacent to Naxalbari railway station. His movements raised suspicion, following which police stopped him and questioned him. During interrogation, several inconsistencies were found in his statements.


A subsequent search led to the recovery of 504 grams of brown sugar from his possession. He was arrested on the spot by Naxalbari police under charges related to drug trafficking.

Police said a detailed investigation is underway to identify other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network and to trace the source and intended destination of the seized contraband.
