Siliguri, 18 January: The Khalpara Outpost police arrested a youth on charges of kidnapping a minor in Siliguri. The arrested youth has been identified as Kaushik Darji alias Chris, originally from Lichupakri in Phansidewa. However, the accused currently resides with his maternal uncle in Nutan Para of Siliguri’s Ward No. 4.
As per reports, while residing in his uncle’s residence Kaushik became infatuated with a 14-year-old girl. In the meantime, the minor girl was stated to be missing. Concerned, the minor’s family members lodged a written missing complaint at the Khalpara Outpost on the 6th of this month.
During the investigation, the police gained information that the minor had been abducted by her lover and taken to the Lichupakri area of Phansidewa. However, before the police reached the location, both the accused and the minor left Phansidewa.
Subsequently, on Wednesday, the family members of the minor learned about their presence in Shanti Para. Following this, the family accompanied by the police arrived at the spot and arrested Kaushik on charges of abduction. On Thursday, the accused youth has been presented in Siliguri court.
