Youth arrested in Siliguri with 280 grams of brown sugar

Siliguri, 27th November: A youth was arrested in Siliguri with 280 grams of brown sugar after a joint operation by the SOG and DD teams of Siliguri Metropolitan Police. The accused has been identified as Neeraj Thapa, a resident of Vishwas Colony under Matigara police station.


According to reports, Neeraj Thapa was spotted near Matigara Chandmuni Primary School around 100 meters away, acting suspiciously while attempting to supply brown sugar. Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and DD teams reached the spot, stopped Neeraj, and conducted a search.

During the search, 280 grams of brown sugar were recovered from a black plastic bag in his pants pocket. The seized substance is estimated to be worth lakhs.


A case has been registered against Neeraj Thapa under the NDPS Act, and he is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri court on Friday. Meanwhile, the SOG and DD teams are investigating to identify other individuals involved in this brown sugar smuggling case.
