Youth arrested in Siliguri for impersonating Army officer, suspected Pakistan links

Siliguri, 01st January: A young man who had aspired to join the Army since childhood but repeatedly failed the entrance exams was arrested in Siliguri for impersonating an Army officer and maintaining contacts with several foreign nationals, including links with Pakistan. The accused, identified as Bhavesh Ghatani, reportedly roamed around in an Army uniform and had also created a fake Army identity card.

The arrest took place late Wednesday night from a mall in Matigara, where Ghatani, a resident of Darjeeling, was spotted in full Army attire. On Thursday, he was produced before a Siliguri court, with Matigara police taking him into custody.

Army intelligence sources confirmed that Ghatani not only wore the uniform but had fabricated a false Army ID. His uniform and fake identity card were seized. Police stated that due to his strong desire to join the Army, he created these documents to present himself as a soldier.

Investigations by Army intelligence revealed multiple suspicious numbers on his phone, with at least two reportedly linked to Pakistan. Authorities are examining the depth of these contacts and whether any larger conspiracy is involved.
