Siliguri, 07th January: Pradhan Nagar police station arrested a youth on charges of attempting to smuggle liquor from Bengal to Bihar. The arrested individual has been identified as Vikram Kumar, a resident of Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
According to police sources, liquor smuggling has increased since the ban on alcohol in Bihar, with liquor being smuggled through Bengal and Nepal in various ways. A similar case came to light on Monday night when a youth arrived at the Bihar bus stand at Siliguri Junction with a trolley.
Acting on a tip-off, Pradhan Nagar police took swift action and apprehended the youth. A search of the trolley revealed a large quantity of liquor, valued at approximately ₹60,000.
Following the recovery, the youth was arrested on charges of liquor smuggling. On Tuesday, Kumar was produced in the Siliguri court. The police have initiated an investigation into the case.
