Siliguri, 14th December: Police have arrested a youth for defrauding a friend of lakhs of rupees. The arrested accused, Aninda Dutta (21), is a resident of Gangarampur in Dakshin Dinajpur district.
According to information, Aninda and Debadityo Pal, a resident of Siliguri, were close friends. It is alleged that Aninda took advantage of their friendship and convinced Debadityo to invest money in the stock market and a hotel business in Darjeeling, promising lucrative returns. Trusting his friend, Debadityo gradually handed over 63 lakh rupees to Aninda.
However, Aninda allegedly refused to return the 63 lakh rupees to Debadityo, and no profit was generated. Following this, Debadityo filed a case of fraud at Siliguri police station on June 7.
After learning about the complaint, Aninda switched off his phone and fled to Assam. The police launched an investigation and, after five months of efforts, arrested Aninda from Assam on Friday. He was subsequently taken on transit remand to Siliguri, arriving on Saturday.
Aninda was presented in the Siliguri court today, and the police obtained a four-day remand for further interrogation.
