Siliguri, 23rd November: The hanging death of a young man in Binoy More area of Dakshin Shantinagar, Siliguri, has shocked the local community. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Das.
Following the incident, the police have arrested his wife, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and mother-in-law.
Sources reveal that Sanjay married Sompa Roy, a resident of the same area, about four years ago. Tensions reportedly began a few months after their marriage. Due to ongoing disputes, Sanjay moved out of his marital home and started living in a rented house in the area, but conflicts continued there as well.
According to allegations, Sanjay was frequently threatened and physically abused by his in-laws. Unable to endure the harassment, he allegedly hanged himself in the rented house on Saturday. Police from Ashighar police outpost recovered the body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Sanjay’s family claimed that he recently discovered obscene images of another man on his wife Sompa Roy’s mobile, which intensified the domestic conflicts. Before his death, Sanjay reportedly left a suicide note mentioning the harassment by his wife and in-laws.
Following the incident, the deceased’s family and local residents gathered at Ashighar police outpost on Saturday evening, demanding strict action against the accused. A written complaint was filed, after which the police arrested the deceased’s wife, brother-in-law, father-in-law, and mother-in-law. The Ashighar police are conducting a detailed investigation into the case.
