Alipurduar, 01st March: Workers of Kalchini and Raimatang Tea Estates in Alipurduar district staged a protest on Saturday over non-payment of salaries.
The two tea estates had reopened on January 20 after remaining closed for about one and a half years. However, workers continue to face hardships despite the reopening. Allegations have surfaced that the new owner has not been paying wages even after making them work.
Reportedly, the salary was supposed to be disbursed last Saturday, but even after a week, the workers have not received their dues. In protest, they refrained from work on Saturday morning, demanding their pending wages.
