Naxalbari, 07th November: A worker tragically died after being crushed by an iron gate at a private resort in Bir Singh Jote of Hatighisa, Naxalbari block. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, has led to an intense response in the area. The deceased, identified as Suraj Lama, was a resident of Shivkhola and had been working as a cook at the resort for the past three months.
According to reports, the iron gate fell on Suraj, killing him instantly. However, his family suspects foul play and has alleged that the incident was a planned murder involving multiple individuals. Suraj’s father-in-law specifically alleged that several people were implicated in the incident.
The resort owner, who reportedly came to eat at the time, stated he found Suraj crushed under the gate and confirmed he died on the spot.
Naxalbari police were alerted shortly after the incident. They have sent the body for autopsy and launched an investigation. Security personnel have been deployed at the scene.
Additionally, a forensic team from Jalpaiguri, comprising four members, arrived on Thursday to collect evidence. Tensions have been high in the area since early morning.
SDPO Naxalbari, CI Naxalbari, and officers from the Naxalbari police station were also present for the forensic examination. SDPO Neha Jain stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following the forensic analysis and autopsy report.
