Work of enclosing Fuleswari River with a plastic net under the message ‘River is not a dustbin’ begins

Siliguri, 27th August: Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s No. 03 Borough Committee has started an initiative to save the rivers in the region. In regard to this, the work of enclosing the Fuleswari River with a plastic net has commenced with the message ‘river is not a dustbin’.

During this, the councillor of Ward No. 20 Abhaya Bose, and Chairperson of No. 03 Borough Committee Milli Sinha were present along with others. A net was installed on the railing of the bridge to prevent people from dumping waste in the river.

Speaking in this regard, Milli Sinha said that the lack of awareness among the people and ignorance is harming the environment. People are dumping and throwing dirt directly into the river from the bridge. Considering this, plastic nets have been installed. At the same time, dustbins have been kept around the river. If their initiative succeeds, Sinha added that the river will soon be enclosed and surrounded by an iron net.

At the same time, councillor Abhaya Bose said that the bridge over Fuleswari River connecting Ward No. 20 and 23 has become dilapidated. Discussions have been held with the Mayor regarding this bridge. Soon the Municipal Corporation will also start building other bridges as well, Bose added.
