Women protest solid waste management project in populated areas with ‘broom march’ in Alipurduar

Alipurduar, 01st August: Women in the Purba Chikliguri area staged a protest march with brooms, demanding that solid waste management projects should not be situated in populated areas.

Reportedly, on Thursday, hundreds of women from the locality participated in the protest. The block administration had designated areas for solid waste management projects within populated regions, sparking anger among residents.

Starting early Thursday morning, the community members united and marched, holding brooms to express their dissent. They argued that although it is a public place, the chosen site for the solid waste management project is in a densely populated area. The residents stated they would have no objections if the land were used for a school or an ICDS center.

The women warned that if the authorities do not relocate the project, they will escalate their protest into a larger movement.
