Siliguri, 06th January: A married woman, identified as Bhagwati Pal, was found hanging in Shanti Nagar, Ward No. 36 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, sparking suspicion and outrage.
According to reports, the family members found her body on Monday morning and informed the police. Officers from Ashighar Outpost arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for autopsy.
The family of the deceased alleged that Bhagwati was murdered for dowry. They claimed that her husband had physically abused her over dowry demands and that she had attempted suicide twice in the past. The family also accused her in-laws of repeatedly pressuring her for money.
However, the woman’s husband refuted the allegations, claiming they were baseless. The reason for her apparent suicide remains unclear.
