Naxalbari, 25th September: The decomposed body of a woman was recovered from a rented house at Rathkhola More in Naxalbari, triggering concern in the area.
According to information, Hema Mondal, a young woman from Dhulabari in Nepal, developed a relationship with Biplab Choudhury, a resident of Gangarampur, while he was working in Nepal. The two eloped and got married around two years ago.
After their marriage, the couple had been living in a rented house at Rathkhola More in Naxalbari. Biplab had been away from home for around a week due to work. When he returned home, he found his wife’s decomposed body inside the house.
Naxalbari Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The body was recovered and taken to Naxalbari Hospital. After the legal formalities were completed in the presence of a magistrate, the body was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Naxalbari Police detained the woman’s husband for questioning in connection with the incident. Hema’s family members also arrived from Nepal after receiving the news of her death. Her father alleged that his son-in-law was involved in his daughter’s death and lodged a complaint at the police station.
It is learnt that Biplab had been running a mobile phone business in Nepal after the marriage and remained occupied with work while his wife stayed at the rented house. The couple last spoke over the phone on September 21.
Police have also recovered the deceased woman’s mobile phone and found information indicating disagreements and arguments between the couple.
Based on the complaint lodged by the woman’s family, Naxalbari Police have started an investigation into the incident.
