Siliguri, 13th December: A woman allegedly stabbed her lover in Siliguri after he repeatedly demanded money to support his addiction, leaving the man seriously injured. Police have arrested the accused woman, while the injured man is undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH).
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the Devidanga area under Pradhan Nagar police station limits. The injured has been identified as Manoj Srivastava, a local resident who is reportedly addicted to intoxicants. After the death of the woman’s husband, she grew close to Srivastava and the two entered into a relationship. However, his addiction and frequent demands for money allegedly caused strain, and the woman wanted to end the relationship.
Police said Srivastava regularly demanded money from the woman to sustain his addiction and refused to leave her alone despite her efforts to distance herself. This reportedly caused her severe distress.
On the day of the incident, Srivastava allegedly went to the woman’s house and again demanded money. An argument followed, during which he is accused of using abusive language. In the heat of the moment, the woman allegedly attacked him with a kitchen knife, causing serious injuries.
Upon receiving information, personnel from Pradhan Nagar police station rushed to the spot, rescued the injured man and shifted him to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for treatment. The woman was arrested and later produced before court.
During preliminary questioning, the accused claimed she had no intention to seriously harm her lover and that the incident occurred unintentionally. Police said Srivastava’s statement will be recorded once his condition stabilises. Further investigation is ongoing.
