Siliguri, 08th April: In a major verdict in the Subodh Kumar Mandal murder case that happened about 16 months ago, the Siliguri court has convicted Subodh’s wife Manju Mandal of murdering her husband and sentenced her to life imprisonment.

Reportedly, Manju’s lover Mohammad Nafrul, who was made a co-accused in this case, was acquitted by the court due to lack of evidence. It is to be noted that the case is of the night of 18 August 2023, when Subodh Kumar Mandal died under suspicious circumstances.

After the incident, the police started an investigation. Two months later, the post-mortem report made it clear that it was not a suicide but murder. On the basis of the post-mortem report, the deceased’s brother Ravindra Mandal lodged a written complaint of murder against Subodh’s wife Manju Mandal and her lover Mohammad Nafrul at the Bidhan Nagar police station on October 15. Both were arrested on 16 October and sent to jail.

According to the police, based on evidence and witnesses presented in court, it was found that on the night of August 18, Manju killed Subodh Kumar Mandal by wrapping a towel around his neck while he was sleeping. Later, she tried to make it look like a suicide.

On the basis of the police investigation and the testimony of 15 people, the court held Manju Mandal guilty of murder. On the other hand, the direct involvement of the second suspect Nafrul in the case could not be proved. He was acquitted by the court due to lack of sufficient evidence.
