Woman injured in a road accident on Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass

Siliguri, 13th January: A tragic incident surfaced where a woman was injured in a road accident in Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass. The injured woman has been identified as Chumki Chatterjee, a resident of Thakur Nagar.


As per reports, on Saturday morning, the woman had left home for work when a tanker hit her and allegedly ran over her leg in the Eastern Bypass, adjacent to her house. After the incident, locals rushed to the rescue and transported the injured to the Siliguri District Hospital. Simultaneously, the residents staged a protest by blocking the road.

The locals alleged that there was an absence of monitoring by traffic police in the area resulting in frequent accidents. They demanded the immediate seizure of the tanker and the arrest of the driver.


Upon receiving the news, the cops of the NJP police station arrived at the spot and spoke to the residents. Later, after assurances from the police, the residents eased the road blockade. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation.
