Siliguri, 24th May: A woman who was infected with black fungus in Siliguri will undergo surgery today.
It is to recall, on Sunday, the woman was admitted to the ENT department of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital after she showed symptoms of the infection and was kept under observation. Her sample was collected and sent for examination. The report came back positive on the very night.
According to sources, the woman had tested positive for the coronavirus a few days ago. After recovering, her eye and face swelled and her eyesight also decreased.
Following this, the medical board decided to move ahead with the surgery. Sandeep Sengupta, a doctor at NBMCH, said that the woman was showing multiple symptoms possibly indicating the black fungus. He added that they opted for surgery to stop the infection from spreading to the patient’s head. The area with the disease will be cut off, following which the woman will recover from the medicine
