Siliguri, 24th September: In a distressing incident, a woman threw her 25-day-old infant daughter into the well. The incident occurred at the Sukanta Nagar auto stand of Ward No. 38 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The accused mother was detained by the officials.
According to reports, the infant was asleep with her father on Tuesday morning when her mother picked her up and threw her into the well. However, the matter came to the attention of someone, and the incident spread across the community.
Meanwhile, the fire brigade was immediately informed. The police and fire brigade arrived at the scene and recovered the lifeless body of the baby. Local sources reported that the mother was suffering from mental illness leading up to the incident. She was frequently found talking about killing her own child after its birth.
Councilor of ward number 38, Dulal Dutta, reached the spot upon receiving the news. He stated that it was a tragic incident and the police are looking into the entire matter.
