Siliguri, 27th November: A woman attendant of a private hospital was brutally attacked with a knife while she was on her way to duty in Ram Krishna Para under Matigara police station, triggering panic in the area. The victim has been identified as Ranju Khatun.
According to police sources, the woman was heading to her workplace on Wednesday evening when a youth suddenly attacked her from behind in a dark, deserted lane of Ram Krishna Para and slit her neck with a knife.
She sustained severe injuries but somehow managed to escape and reached the Matigara Primary Health Centre. Owing to her critical condition, she was later referred to the Medical College and then admitted to a private hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Police suspect the attack may be linked to an old enmity. A search is underway to trace the absconding attacker. Matigara Police have launched an investigation into the case.
