Siliguri, 11th December: Tension erupted in Uttar Shanti Nagar after a woman died on Thursday morning at a nursing home in Siliguri, reportedly after consuming a toxic substance due to her husband’s alleged extramarital affair.
According to the family and neighbours, the woman’s husband had been involved in an illicit relationship with a neighbouring woman for a long time. Unable to tolerate the affair, the woman allegedly consumed poison on 09th December in an attempt to end her life. She had been undergoing treatment at the nursing home since then.
Her death on Thursday morning triggered outrage among local residents, who vandalised the house of the neighbouring woman accused in the matter. A scuffle also broke out between locals and the police.
As the situation escalated, a large police force from Ashighar Outpost and Bhakti Nagar Police Station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The police rescued the neighbour and her family, shifting them to Ashighar Outpost for safety.
The deceased’s body will be brought back to Uttar Shanti Nagar after post-mortem. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further unrest. Police have initiated an investigation into the entire incident.
