Siliguri, 21st February: A tragic incident surfaced where a woman lost her life after being hit by a Toto (e-rickshaw) in Siliguri. The deceased has been identified as Chitra Kundu.
As per reports, on February 14, Chitra Kundu was hit by a toto from behind as she went out of her house on Netaji Subhas Road in Subhash Pally under Ward No. 20 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
Consequently, Chitra fell on the road, suffered severe head injuries, and has been in a coma since then. The woman was undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH), where she breathed her last on Tuesday night. Subsequently, after a post-mortem examination, her deceased body was brought to her home in Subhash Pally on Wednesday. After the incident, Chitra’s family filed a written complaint at the Siliguri police station and the accused toto driver was arrested, following investigations.
Meanwhile, it is stated that slabs have been unsettled for work in the drainage system on Netaji Subhash Road. The broken slabs have been allegedly lying on the road for several days. In this regard, the residents alleged that due to an uncleared narrow road, accidents occur. However, local Councilor Abhaya Bose allegedly refrained from accepting the allegations.
