Siliguri, 14th March: A woman was arrested with brown sugar at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station after a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Special Operations Group (SOG). The arrested accused has been identified as Taslima Khatun (28), a resident of Morigaon district in Assam.
According to reports, acting on a tip-off on Saturday morning, a joint team of GRP and SOG conducted a search operation at NJP Railway Station. During the operation, a train standing at Platform Number 5 was searched and a suspicious woman was detained.
During the search, officials recovered 48 grams of brown sugar from her possession. The seized narcotic substance is estimated to be worth several lakh rupees.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the drugs were being transported from Assam with the intention of trafficking them to Kerala.
The accused was produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday, while further investigation into the case is underway.
