Siliguri, 10th October: In a significant breakthrough, a woman was arrested from Siliguri’s Vishwas Colony By-pass More on charges of drug trafficking. The arrested accused has been identified as Lakshmi Mandal, a resident of Malda.
According to reports, on Monday evening, the woman arrived at By-pass More in Siliguri’s Vishwas Colony, with brown sugar in a bag from Malda. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Matigara police launched a joint operation at the said location and apprehended the woman.
Upon initiating a search, 350 grams of brown sugar was recovered from the bag carried by the woman. The estimated market value of the drugs is stated to be in lakhs of rupees. Following this, the woman was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. On Tuesday, the accused was produced before the Siliguri court. At present, the police are engaged in further investigation.
