Siliguri, 21st February: A woman was arrested with 300 grams of brown sugar during a late-night operation conducted by the SOG and plainclothes police of Matigara Police Station on Friday. The raid was carried out in an area adjacent to Matigara Market based on a tip-off.
The accused has been identified as Mayna Khatun (26), a resident of Vishwas Colony in Matigara. According to police sources, she had allegedly been running a drug trade from her residence for a considerable period.
Police said she was intercepted while returning home after allegedly delivering narcotics. The officers recovered 300 grams of brown sugar from her possession and arrested her on the spot.
The accused was produced before the Siliguri court on Saturday, and police have sought remand for further interrogation. An investigation has been initiated to identify other members involved in the drug trafficking network.
