Siliguri, 21st May: NJP Police have arrested a woman in connection with a theft case that occurred in the Sukanta Pally Shiv Shakti Kalibari area of Ward No. 33 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The accused has been identified as Khushboo Dami, a resident of Irani Basti.
According to reports, the theft took place on Sunday afternoon when a woman, accompanied by two children, entered a house in the area. Taking advantage of the homeowner being engaged in prayer, the accused entered the house unnoticed. She was carrying a child in her lap and was accompanied by another child aged around 8 to 10 years.
Once inside, the woman went straight to the cupboard, opened it, and fled with gold jewellery, cash, and other valuables worth approximately ten lakh rupees. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV installed in the house.
After discovering the theft, the family lodged a written complaint at NJP Police Station. Based on the complaint and with the help of CCTV footage, police launched an investigation and arrested the accused from the South Colony area on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the arrested woman was produced before the Jalpaiguri court. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
