Siliguri, 02nd April: Matigara police busted an illegal drug trade operating from a house and arrested a woman identified as Firoza Begum (41), a resident of Vishwas Colony.
According to police, acting on specific intelligence, a team in plain clothes carried out a special operation. Investigation revealed that the accused was running an illegal trade of brown sugar from her residence, which had turned into a hub for drug activities.
After confirming the inputs, police had been keeping the accused under surveillance for the past 24 hours. She was caught red-handed while allegedly selling brown sugar outside her house.
Around 101 grams of brown sugar were recovered from her possession, with an estimated market value running into lakhs of rupees.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the accused was produced before the Siliguri court. Police have sought her remand for further investigation, and a detailed probe is underway.
