Woman allegedly thrown out of home over family dispute in Siliguri, police complaint filed

Siliguri, 15th December: A widow has alleged that she was forced out of her home following a family dispute in Sukanta Nagar under Ward No. 38 of Siliguri, compelling her to spend the winter night on the streets. A police complaint has been filed in connection with the incident.

According to sources, Purnima Roy Guin legally married the late Shyamapada Guin in 2020 and had been residing at her husband’s house. While the family relations were initially normal, tensions reportedly escalated after her husband’s death a few months ago. The woman alleged that her relationship deteriorated with Shyamapad Guin’s son from his first marriage, Banadeep Guin, along with his wife and mother-in-law.

The dispute allegedly reached a flashpoint on Sunday, when Purnima Roy Guin was reportedly forced out of the house. With no immediate shelter available, she was compelled to spend the night outdoors. Later, with assistance from local youths, she approached the Ashighar Outpost and lodged a complaint. She subsequently spent the night at Siliguri District Hospital.

On Monday morning, the woman returned to her husband’s residence in Sukanta Nagar and staged a sit-in protest outside the house.

Meanwhile, Banadeep Guin lodged a counter-complaint, alleging that Purnima Roy Guin created a disturbance at the house on Sunday and assaulted his child, claiming that his family now feels unsafe due to her actions.

Local Councillor Dulal Dutta stated that an earlier attempt to resolve the matter through a meeting had failed. Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations made by both parties.
