Siliguri, 07th February: In a recent incident, a woman was allegedly murdered by her son in Durgadas Colony, Ward No. 20 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation, over a property dispute, causing a stir in the area. The accused has been identified as Srikrishna Mahanto.
According to reports, there had been ongoing tension in the family regarding the ownership of their house. Locals claim that Srikrishna often assaulted his mentally unstable mother, Manju Mahanto, and repeatedly pressured her to transfer the property to his name. Matters escalated further when his sister refused to sign the land deed.
In a fit of rage, Srikrishna allegedly assaulted and strangled his mother to death. Upon learning about the incident, Ward Councilor Abhaya Bose rushed to the scene. The Siliguri police also arrived promptly and arrested the accused.
The body of the deceased was sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for an autopsy. The accused will be produced in court on Saturday, while police continue their investigation into the incident.
