Rajganj, 29th June: A herd of wild elephants destroyed betel nut and banana plantations in the Lalitabari area of Mantadari Gram Panchayat, leaving the affected farmer distraught.
The incident occurred late on Friday night when the elephants roamed into the area and damaged the plantations belonging to farmer Manoranjan Roy. Approximately 100 betel and banana trees were destroyed, causing significant financial loss to Roy, who relies on these crops for his family’s livelihood. This follows a previous incident where his paddy crop was also damaged, for which he claimed not receiving compensation.
Locals in the area, which is adjacent to the forest, expressed their ongoing struggle with wild animals and their constant fear of such attacks. They have called for increased patrols by forest workers to ensure their safety and protect their crops.
