Wild elephant herd damages paddy fields in Bengai Jote, Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 07th June: A herd of wild elephants created panic in Bengai Jote, near the Tukriajhar forest in Naxalbari, after entering the area and damaging crops late Friday night.


According to reports, the herd emerged from the Tukriajhar forest and entered nearby paddy fields, causing significant damage before moving towards the Kalabari forest.

After learning about the incident, local residents promptly informed the Tukriajhar Forest Department. Forest personnel, along with villagers, managed to drive the elephants back into the forest.


It is reported that the herd included 19 elephants, including calves. Locals stated that large portions of their cultivated paddy fields were destroyed in the incident.
