The West Bengal Government is in the process of considering an expansion of its district count, with the intention of enhancing governance effectiveness. This initiative aims to optimize the functioning of the “Duare Sarkar” scheme by facilitating improved public outreach. This move is anticipated to alleviate the need for citizens to undertake lengthy journeys to access government services.
According to sources, this matter was deliberated upon during a state cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Presently, the state of Bengal comprises 23 districts.
