West Bengal is on high alert as Cyclone Mocha looms over the region, prompting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a warning for the state. The low-pressure area formed in the southeast Bay of Bengal is anticipated to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 9 and May 10.
To address the potential threat, the Kolkata police administration has swiftly established an integrated control room in Nabanna to closely monitor the situation. The Disaster Management and Civil Defence Department have also alerted the Public Works Department (PWD), Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation (CESC), and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to remain prepared as the storm is expected to make landfall over the upcoming weekend. Additionally, multiple food shelters have been stocked with essential supplies such as dry foods and water to tackle the impending situation.
Assuring the public, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during a press conference, stated that the administration is closely observing the developments and taking necessary measures to mitigate the impact of Cyclone Mocha. The districts prone to devastation have been adequately equipped with relief materials. The state administration is urging residents to prioritize their safety and undertake precautionary measures to safeguard themselves and their properties from the approaching cyclonic storm.
